Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks: Three Main Aspects under the Spotlight

As we have mentioned in last post, on June 10th, 2013, WWDC2013 Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference finally raised its curtain. At this conference, a series of products are announced like OS X 10.9 Mavericks, MacBook Air, Mac Pro, iOS 7 and more. Here we will have a brief look of the new desktop operating system OS X 10.9 Mavericks.

The new desktop operating system is named Mavericks instead of Sea Lion or Lynx as people have speculated. The Mavericks was inspired by the world famous surf spot in California, where OS X is developed. According to Tim Cook, all the subsequent Macintosh operating systems will be named with the spots in California that can bring the inspiration.

The new OS X will be available to public in the fall. The main features include Tab in Finder, multiple tags in one window and multiple displays. The Finder Tabs supports multiple windows operation and convergence of multiple windows into one window and full screen. Through adding tags to different documents including the files in iCloud, users can easily organize and search the files just by clicking the sidebar of the Finder or enter the name of the tag in the search box.

The menus of the new OS X 10.9 will be spread across the different displays for users to run multiple tasks at different windows. Also users can take a window full-screen on one display. Users even can take an HDtv as a big screen through the help of AirPlay.  All these features of the Mavericks will make the life easier for users who have multiple monitors.

Moreover, a feature called “App Nap” was introduced to Safari to reduce the power resumption and space occupation. The iCloud keychain can help users record all the users and passwords and store them on iCloud. OS X 10.9 also adopts fire-new notifications and map. The iBook is for the first time added in Mac.

WWDC 2013: Apple Unveil iOS 7 – Biggest Change to iOS since the First iPhone

Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2013 was held as scheduled on June 10th, 2013. At this significant and much focused conference, Apple officially announced the long rumored iOS 7, which totally revamps the theme for its mobile operating system since the first generation of iPhone. The new iOS will be available to free download in this fall and will run on the devices including iPhone 4 and above, iPad 2 and above, iPad Mini and iPod touch 5th generation.

The iOS 7 was completely redesigned by Jony Ive with fire-new user interface (UI). The most obvious point is the flat design style with subtle color, which is exactly the same as the speculations. The new style abandons the traditional garish analog design in favor of a much flat look and feel.

Apart from the changes of the icon, Apple also redesigns the interface and some functions. The new iOS adopts upward sliding unlock, push-up control panel, multitask process and more. In iOS 7, Siri adopts a brand new interface and new voices.  Moreover, Apple for the first time adds filter in camera and photo, adopts AirDrop and provides the free iTunes Radios. All the new features of iOS 7 reveal the concise and fashion.

Do you like the Skeuomorphism traditional iOS or the flatter new iOS 7? Would you like to update your iSO to the latest one or remain unchanged?

In this WWDC, Apple published many products apart from iOS 7, such as Macbook Air, OS X 10.9 Mavericks, Mac Pro and more. If you want to know more detailed info about these new products, please pay attention to our later post.

Microsoft Smart Watch: Pursue the Future or Just Follow Like Sheep?

As the wearable electronics become more and more popular, it is said that Microsoft is working on a touch-enabled smart watch on the heels of Apple, Google and Samsung.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Microsoft has “asked suppliers in Asia to ship components for a potential watch-style device”. And the report also said the smart watch will feature a 1.5-inch display. However, whether Microsoft will move ahead with the smart watch is still unclear.

Is the word ready for a smart watch? As we know that Microsoft has released a smart watch in 2004, which displayed calendar notifications, news headlines, sports scores through its MSN Direct software. But it seemed a less-than-successful smart watch for it was stopped in 2008. However, if smart watch will be the next big event in tech world, Microsoft apparently doesn’t want to be left behind.

The wearable devices may become the next world-wide electronic equipments. Since the released Android-oriented wearable Google glasses and Apple’s iWatch which to be released, creating its own wearable devices to redefine the users’ experience has become a necessary trend for Microsoft.

Yes, Microsoft doesn’t have the superior internet service of searching and data as Google. And it couldn’t compare with Apple’s almost perfect hardware. However, it doesn’t mean Microsoft’s wearable smart phone has no way out. It has its own advantages like its acclaimed Windows operating system and Xbox devices, etc. can make a way for it in today’s technologically driven society.
